You have booked in your session..so now what?

Well I need to get some info from you and we need to decide where we are going to do your session.

Let’s start with locations.

I LOVE in home sessions. I love them for newborns, families and even couples.

I love that your home is your space. It is where 90% of your memories are created. If your kids are jumping on the bed, playing lego, dressing up as a princess/superhero or you have a new baby asleep in the cot these are the moments that you will look back on and remember forever. So let’s capture these memories.

If you are looking at a location then there are a few things to keep in mind. I only book sessions in the late afternoon. This is because any other time of the day the sun is really harsh. Yes, it is hot, but it also casts really horrible shadows across your face, people squint and the location won’t photograph as beautifully as it does in the late afternoon. So I usually aim for around an hour before sunset – it is cooler then too.

Now, if you or anybody in your family hates sand, please don’t book a session for the beach! You would be surprised how often this happens!

I am open to all location ideas, some of my favourite photos are from somewhere that isn’t expected. The photos below are from a park in Zuccoli which was close to where the family lived. As long as we time it right anywhere can be photographed beautifully.

Cancellations

I totally understand that life happens. Kids get sick, husbands are made redundant, it rains. It’s these reasons why I don’t take a deposit. If you need to reschedule your session, as long as you give me enough notice then it is totally fine. During the wet season if it looks like it is going to rain then we decide on the day. I am always happy to reschedule to another date if needed. My weekends are usually always heavily booked so I can’t guarantee that I will always have one available straight away.

In the event that you need to cancel your booking, please just let me know asap so that I can fill that spot as quickly as possible, don’t leave it until a couple of days before as I will be unable to fill it in that timeframe.

What to Wear

So this is my most asked question and it is the hardest to answer!

Everybody is different and everybody has their own style. What I like may not necessarily be what you like.

I love neutral tones but then some of my favourite photos have been of families in bright colours!

I can’t tell you how to dress but I do have some tips:

-pick a colour tone and co-ordinate the outfits to match that tone. I’m not saying that everyone comes dressed in that colour but other colours that compliment that colour

-try to avoid big logos on t-shirts

-no shoes for the beach! (it just doesn’t look right)

-if wearing patterns then try not to have too many patterns that will clash

-pick an outfit for mum then work everyone around her

At the end of the day these are your photos. If you are more of a relaxed/causal family then dress like that, if you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing it is going to show in your body language and ultimately your photos. Some families dress to match their decor if they are planning to hang a large photo in their house – that is something to think about if you plan to do this too.

For girls clothes I love Lacey Lane (I have a heap of size 3/4 stuff for my daughter if you want to borrow anything for your shoot just ask!) and Violet Hearts (she is local, check her out on FB) and Cotton On Kids for boys clothes.

Asos usually have some nice maternity dresses (and normal dresses!). Spell Designs have beautiful boho dresses that I really love (most would suit maternity) that would photograph so great in a family session.

Payment

Your session can be paid for prior to the date via bank transfer or by cash on the day, either way is fine.

If you need to contact me for whatever reason my number is 0477 777 820. It is easier if you text me as I am usually driving, at a shoot, at a meeting so it is hard for me to answer all the time. Keep my number handy on the day of your shoot in case you can’t find me, you can always text me to say you have arrived so I can keep an eye out for you (I’m usually early to my shoots!).
